About Flokati Rugs
Flokati rugs are eloquent. Flokati rugs are the new style of area rug. Flokati rugs have been a Greek tradition for centuries. The 5th century Vlachs who lived in Samarina, the highest village on the Pindos Mountains, were the inventors of Flokati rugs. As shepherds, they raised sheep and goats, producing dairy products sold during the winter in the plains of Trikala, Thessaly, Macedonia and as far away as Odessa. They used these rugs primarily as clothing and bedding for their tents, keeping them warm during the long winter months. The women of the village, having access to the wool, would weave Flokati rugs to be sold at bazaars during the winter. This tradition continued for centuries and didn’t cease until the early 1960’s. The Mazarakis family has continued the tradition of producing fine Flokati rugs and other hand-woven rugs.
During the past fifteen years, there has been a tremendous demand for higher quality Flokati rugs. Customers and retailers alike have realized that a definite niche exists for quality products in the American home.

Is the wool treated with any chemicals? And what does floco mean ?
Floco actually is the greek word for pile and is used to separate the 100% woolen flokati from the one that the base is made from pp.
So, Flokati is called the 100% woolen rug and floco is called the rug that the pile is 100% wool and the base is 100% polypropylene.
Regarding your second question, the rugs are not treated with any chemicals.
